Dear Gwen and Bill,

Congratulations.

What a fantastic achievement reaching your 60th wedding anniversary.

Thank you very much for your kind invitation. It would have been fantastic to have been able to meet you both and share your day with you and your family.

Flora, who I am sure is your oldest living Aunt, has always spoken very fondly of you and has always said how much we would love you both.

Flora will be 100 years old next April and you can rest assured if she were at all capable of sharing your day she would have been there with bells on. You can't keep a good Scot down!

David, Flora and I wish you both continued health and happiness and hope that your day is perfect in every way. We will look forward to seeing pictures of the day and I will ensure that your Auntie Flora sees them too.

Warmest Regards

Sheryl and David Jamieson and Flora Jamieson

To dear Gwen and Bill,

I was thrilled to receive this invitation to your Diamond Wedding celebrations. It is a lovely photograph and I shall take it to America with me. I can only think of you both on the day, but will just be with you in spirit. Hope you have a wonderful day with family and friends.

Love From Marian, Carrie, Richard and Baby Hannah xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I suddenly realized that I had not formally sent my apologies for not attending your parents 60th Wedding Anniversary, the mind boggles when I think about it , their 60th, fantastic . Our problem is at our age of getting to Sydney for the day and with other commitments we can’t make it.. Our humble apologies, please wish them both our very best on the auspicious day and tell your Dad I am proud of him living up to the TAG standard. A Bravo Zulu …….to him which means in Naval talk “ well done”!

We will be thinking of you all on that day.

We consider ourselves to be very good friends of Bill & Gwen although it is some time since we have had the pleasure of their company. It was with a lot of pleasure we received the invite to their 60th Anniversary celebrations. As we mentioned in a couple of conversations with Annette it is with great regret we are unable to join you all on this very special occasion. We are leaving for a 3 week trip to New Zealand the following week & it was not very practical to do both.

We often talk about our first meeting with Bill & Gwen some 23 years ago. It was Sunday 26th Sept. 1982 & were waiting to board a ferry at Dover in the UK before leaving on a tour of Europe. Joan heard people talking & was sure it was an Australian accent. Let me say Joan is not foolproof when it comes to recognising an Aussie accent but on this occasion she was spot on. Bill & I soon found we had something in common as we were both born in the county of Cheshire in the UK about 20 miles apart, Bill in Stockport & me in Crewe.

We were able to spend many happy hours with Bill & Gwen during the next 10 days. Both Joan & I have fond memories of Lucerne on 29th Sept. We had lunch on the first floor balcony of a cafe. It was a bright summer's day & we sat for some time just watching the world go by. On tours such as this it is difficult to sit anywhere for any length of time. Joan's diary tells us that later the same day she & Gwen went in search of an embroidered blouse but ended up buying a little wooden weather station which still stands in our kitchen. Later that evening we all went to a Swiss Fokelore evening.

Again the entry in Joan's diary tells it all .

Glorious weather
Magnificent views
Clean clean air
Lush countryside
Friendly people
Good Company BILL & GWEN WEST

It's been our good fortune to meet Bill & Gwen on many occasions over the succeeding years & as we said before it's regrettable that we cannot be with you all at the celebrations. Have a great day.

We have attached a copy of a photo taken of the 4 of us taken on a canal tour in Amsterdam. Hope it brings back many happy memories.

With love & Best wishes

Joan & Keith JONES
